Board Certification of Texas Lawyers

Texas lawyers may apply to become board certified in their areas of specialty after meeting certain stringent requirements. Less than 10% of lawyers are board certified. Typically, a lawyer must have practiced for at least five years; taken a considerable amount of continuing legal education and devoted much of his practice to the desired specialization; received the recommendation of his peers; and passed a six-hour specialization exam. Specializations must be renewed every five years.

In the area of real estate law, there are four specializations: residential, commercial, farm and ranch, and HOA law. David J. Willis is board certified in both residential real estate law and commercial real estate law.
